Historical Context: April 1927 at New Ideal Theatre

Ithaca, Michigan’s New Ideal Theatre housed 362 seats in 1927 when it screened the new silent western Loco Luck (1927) starring Art Acord on April 8-9. According to the website Theatre Treasures the structure has since been razed Early Westerns like Loco Luck showcased the skills of real cowboys, like Art Acord, who was friends with many of the early stars such as Will Rogers, Tom Mix, Hoot Gibson, Buck Jones, Tom Maynard and Bill Pickett. These cinema cowboys showcased skills learned in the closing days of the frontier.  A more complete list can be found at Cowboys of the Old West. The year 1927 saw the introduction of full sound in motion pictures. It also marked the 10-year anniversary of the end of World War I.
