Historical Context: November, 1934
The Ideal Theatre in Louisville, Kentucky is among those listed at Cinema Treasures. The facility opened in 1910, and in 1934 it offered movies every day of the week. The Sunday show November 18-19 was the second Shirley Temple film, Little Miss Marker. In 1934, it was one of the seven she appeared in. In total, the Shirley Temple catalog of movies rose to 39, the last in 1949 when she was 22 years old.
Other movies of note include two starring Helen Twelvetrees and the Will Rogers film Handy Andy (1934).
Twelvetrees was a popular actress in the 1930s, part of a first generation of ‘talkie’ stars. Her popularity faded, although she still gained 32 screen credits.
The Will Rogers movie was near the end of his film career. He died in a plane crash one year after its release.
