Historical Context: October, 1945

Jack Benny received top billing for The Horn Blows at Midnight, playing Oct. 21-22 at the Oasis Theatre in Hermiston, Oregon. The critics would not be as welcoming (See Movie Facts).

In global events, World War II had officially ended one month earlier, Sept. 2, 1945, with the formal surrender of Japan. This followed the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki on Aug. 6th and 9th, ending the war in the Pacific and globally. Germany had surrendered unconditionally to the Allies on May 8, 1945, marking the end of World War II in Europe. The  devastating global conflict had lasted from 1939 to 1945.
