Historical Context: February, 1938

The State Theatre in Ukiah, California opened as the Victory Theatre on February 6, 1914. It was renamed State Theatre in 1923. The theatre closed in 1948 when the building was condemned, according to the website Cinema Treasures.

In February of  1938, the US economy still struggled, but the movie business was booming. To learn what was at the movies, fans had only to dial 2 numbers (Phone 55) to learn the latest titles.
